Back on the Ice with the Manitoba Moose

This past weekend, I had the chance to photograph the Manitoba Moose once again at Canada Life Centre while shooting for Game On Magazine. It’s been a while since I’ve covered them, and being back rink-side reminded me how much I love shooting hockey. There’s nothing quite like the mix of adrenaline, sound, and cold air that hits you the moment you step up to the glass.
Armed with my trusty Canon 1DX Mark II and my 70–200mm f/2.8L II — my go-to setup for fast-paced action. Hockey is one of those sports where you have to think ahead of the play. You don’t just react; you feel where the moment is going. When you get that perfect split-second — the blade cutting the ice, the emotion frozen mid-celebration — that’s where the magic lives.
One of those moments came when a Moose player took a high stick. The image captured the aftermath perfectly — a fresh cut, blood running down, and a raw look of determination. It’s not staged. It’s not polished. It’s pure, authentic emotion — and that’s exactly what I love about sports photography.
And then came the Moose’s lone goal of the night. The celebration that followed was electric — smiles, shouts, and relief captured in a single frame. You can feel the energy, even without hearing the roar of the crowd.
For me, sports photography isn’t just about documenting a score — it’s about capturing the human side of the game. The emotion, the energy, and those fleeting moments that connect players and fans alike.
If you’re looking for a photographer who can bring that same energy and storytelling to your event, reach out and let’s make it happen.
